I learnt about the Institute for National Transformation (INT) at the time of its conception in 2008 and was encouraged by my former colleagues at URA to attend the flagship course but was not able to at the time. This now seemed to be the perfect time to enroll to clarify that purpose. After all, the aims of the Institute are to “develop leaders in Uganda who will lead their organizations and communities to higher levels of success”. The Oakseed Executive Leadership Course has made a great impression on me in many more ways than I imagined, and I will share a few areas in the training that have impacted me.

As we celebrate ten years of the Institute for National Transformation’s existence, I am filled with amazement at the lives and communities that have been touched by men and women who have chosen not to sit and wait for others to make positive impact in their sphere of influence, but have put their best foot forward and taken responsibility, for the issues that burden their hearts.

The two things that stood out the most for me that I wasn’t used to doing was speed reading and early morning physical exercises. I always had excuses like having a lot of work to do that I had no time left to exercise. To my surprise, it came easy and was fun even as I dealt with a few muscle pulls on day three.
Dangers looming on the horizon
While being optimistic about the next 50 years of Uganda, it is prudent to explore what could happen if we do not wake up to the realities that we are faced with today. What are the current trends which if not addressed could lead us to landmines in the journey to 2062? The worst-case scenario we can face in the journey ahead is failure of the state. In November 1998, Institute for National Transformation (INT) Uganda was launched with the goal of raising the awareness of leaders and citizens in the country on their responsibility towards national transformation. Since then, several hundred people have undergone the “OAKSEED” Executive Leadership Program (INT-OAKSEED) training.
